On a daily basis, we tell our clients to reach out to us if they run into any software that they think is “questionable.” It’s amazing how an innocent download can lead to viruses and spyware infecting an entire network. If you’re downloading free software, ask yourself why it’s free.
With that in mind, our friends at “How To Geek” recently tested this idea by installing the “Top 10 Downloads” from download.com (one of the most popular sites for software downloads). They installed free antivirus software, a Dropbox bundle, music player, a PC cleaner, a YouTube video downloader, a drive booster, an uninstaller, and several other programs. Their findings were fascinating. When they were finished, their computer was full of malicious software.
