Within the past week, the Department of Homeland Security and a national security company have found two new bugs in Apple’s Quicktime software. Apple does not intend to update Quicktime software for Windows computers, so Homeland Security is advising users to uninstall Quicktime.
There are no known exploits of these two new bugs, but future malware or hackers could take advantage of these problems.
Apple hasn’t released a statement, but has posted instructions to uninstall Quicktime on its website: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205771
Quicktime is a video/movie player created by Apple. If you need a free alternative, we’re fans of VLC Media Player. It can be downloaded here: https://www.videolan.org/
If you’re a managed client, we’ll be discussing plans to automatically remove Quicktime from your office PCs.
